I have too many figmas, nendos and books I don’t want anymore. Somebody buy them from me. Do it now.
My Hamsteak contest submission. I had three ideas all nice and laid out…and then I procrastinated and started this at 5pm the last day. Oh well, I like how it came out. Doubt it will win though.
Whenever I hear “Burning Up Inside” by George and Jonathan I can’t help but think I’m playing some sort of PC98 dating sim. It’s great.
Oh! And it really bugs me that all the actual new themes in Episode 1 that John Williams composed may as well be alternate versions of pieces he did from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade. The similarities in some are so damn similar. Especially the Nazi theme in Last Crusade and the Trade Federation theme. Ergh.
I think what bugs me the most about Phantom Menace, and by proxy, but to a somewhat lesser extent, Clones and Revenge, is that if you were to make a super detailed synopsis of the plot and show it to a Star Wars fan who hadn’t seen them yet, they’d probably think it was awesome. Because it really does work awesomely on paper with a few nitpicky exceptions…it’s just the execution that fails miserably, and not even ALL the time in the prequels, just…more often than not. I don’t hate George Lucas for the prequels (I hate him for the blu-ray alterations and the fact that the theatrical versions of the original trilogy have never been released on DVD in widescreen format), but I just wish he hadn’t directed them. Look at how good Empire is, or even Jedi. One of the reasons? Because he DIDN’T direct them.
Either way, I had fun watching Phantom Menace last night for the first time in years, maybe a small part of that was just because it was in a theater and it reminded me of waiting in line overnight to see it back in 1999. Even if I couldn’t help laughing out loud at the sheer stupidness of so many of the insignificant background characters (Rick Ollie, that old woman who tells Anakin there’s a storm coming, I’m looking at you) and every horrible line uttered by Jake Lloyd.
And now I’m gonna go play Pod Racer for the N64 because damn that game is good.
